TAX CLERK

Provides technical and organizational support to Tax Collector in the billing and collection of real estate, motor vehicle, and personal property taxes as well as sewer assessment and sewer maintenance fees and aircraft registration fees. Processes cash and check payments in QDS software. Prepares bank deposits and reconciles same. Assists Taxpayers in person and on the phone.  Processes mail and assists with all aspects of the tax office. Assumes responsibility for the Tax Office in the absence of the TC.

 

Must have strong customer service skills combined with impeccable math aptitude. Knowledge of bookkeeping and record keeping helpful. Knowledge of Word and Excel and the ability to follow strict office procedures is required.   Ability to read, understand and explain Connecticut State Statues as they relate to tax collection.  Willingness to complete and pass the first course of the Certified Connecticut Municipal Collector’s program, which involves travel time if the job becomes added hours.

Hours are part time Monday, Tuesday & Thursday in July and January with the possibility of extended hours during these months. Some other hours during the year, depending on budget constraints and required duties related to Aircraft registration and other important projects.
